At the Judy Dan Wound Care Centre, we will be conducting a Level One, prospective, randomized, double blind, controlled research study.

The first arm of the study will evaluate the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen in preventing amputations.

The second arm of the study will research the biochemical factors involved.

The third arm of the study will develop optimum diagnostic and treatment protocols.

The fourth arm of the study will investigate the newly discovered relationship between hyperbaric oxygen and stem cells.

The study will be conducted in cooperation with McMaster University’s Program for Assessment of Technology in Health (PATH) and staff of the University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital).

Knowledge gained in the role of oxygen in healing wounds, and its effect on stem cells and biochemical factors, could have far reaching implications beyond diabetic wound care.
